ABOUT
I grew up surrounded by musicians and artists. My father ( a singer, composer and poet) was a major influence and source of inspiration for me. I played the piano and guitar growing up, but didn't start writing songs until I entered recovery from addiction at 37.
MEET THE SONGWRITER - 5 QUICK QUESTIONS:
Why do you write songs? (When/why did you start writing, what do you enjoy and what keeps you going?)
A: Writing and creating has been part of my being from a young age. I can't imagine not writing poetry, drawing or writing songs. It's a good way to stay sane and sublimate any despondency.
How would you describe the emotional world or themes your songs tend to explore? (What is it that you would like people to learn, hear, feel or take from your songs?)
A: My songs are drawn heavily from my years in addiction, recovery, existential battles and an earnest supplication to something beyond.
Which artists or songwriters have had the biggest influence on your musical journey?
A: I grew up listening to classical music from my dad ( Western and Greek), and fell in love with heavy metal as well. I like sad and moody artists, too many to name, but if I need to be inspired to write, I'll listen to Chris Cornell, Marilyn Manson, Silverchair, Tool, Stone Temple Pilots, and the list goes on.
Describe your songwriting process. How does a song usually begin for you?
A: The music always comes first. I'll have many instrumental pieces on the go and I'll dig through books of poetry to see what fits. Sometimes, I'll hear something interesting or read something in a book, and think, GOLD!, I'll use this.
If you were to be stranded on a desert island and could only take two albums with you, what would they be?
A: Classical compilation and a Soundgarden or Audioslave album.
