CANBERRA SONGWRITERS
Canberra has a thriving community of original songwriters! CanberraWAX connects local songwriters through regular ‘Song Circles’, songwriting group events, performance opportunities and community gatherings.
The CanberraWAX songwriter profiles are a directory of Canberra songwriters, singer-songwriters and original music artists involved and active in the local songwriting community, with profiles covering a wide range of musical styles, backgrounds and approaches to songwriting. Explore the profiles below to discover Canberra songwriters, find new local music and connect with the people helping make Canberra's original music scene what it is.
A number of our regular attendees also have music on Bandcamp and Spotify. Click here for Playlists and to learn how you can support local Canberra-based songwriters and their music.
Are you a Canberra-based (or visiting) songwriter? Come join us at the next Canberra Wax Lyrical Song Circle, 1st Saturday of the month at Smith’s Alternative.
CanberraWAX's monthly WAX Lyrical circle is part of the Australian Songwriters Association's wider network of songwriter gatherings. If you're exploring songwriting opportunities beyond Canberra, find out more about the ASA and its national activities at here.

Danny V
Been writing over 50 years, enjoy lots of variety, need to get stuff out of my head to preserve a semblance of sanity.
Brigitte Heyer
"Brigitte's songs are honest and straight from the heart …Her engaging performance is a unique hybrid of Australian laconic delivery and Euro-cabaret-chic." Brett Galt-Smith
Jedda Do
Jedda, with her band ‘Daybed Promises’ have been living up to their pledge to bring you “wistful sunlit folk pop” from the capital!
Kai
Bedroom artist writing what my family calls ‘sad boy’ music, or more accurately what The National call the ‘SAD DAD’ genre. Massive fan of Australia’s incredible depth of talent in independent music. Love going to shows/gigs and songwriting.
Alexia
Writing and creating has been part of my being from a young age. I can't imagine not writing poetry, drawing or writing songs. It's a good way to stay sane and sublimate any despondency.
Ian Paulin
He’s performed at top festivals and venues in Oz and overseas. He’s been an artist, activist, academic and community worker. His songs are powerful journeys always performed with his unique, rational passion and a true sense of fun. Something magical always happens when Ian plays. You’ll be glad you came.
Lachlan Irvine
I write love songs, fun songs, political satire songs, blues songs, and songs that have been inspired by my service in the Vietnam War. Those “war” songs are particularly important to me, because it’s a way to add to my many years of voluntary work in the veteran community.
Sam Floyd
Sam Floyd (aka Recklass Knecklass is a genderbending storyteller, poet and fashion icon who "sings" and plays raucous fingerpicking guitar. He grew up in the circus, pursued playwrighting for many years, and now pays the bills as Canberra's sexiest qualified baker.
Weather Veins (Hailey)
I write music that ideally transports the listener (and me!) to other worlds. I channel prog rock and folk music into emotional vulnerability, enigmatic stories, and winding journeys.
Dave Briggs
Dave is a singer-songwriter. Following his bliss and letting the music do the talking!
Stephen Dobson
For Stephen, songwriting is both craft and catharsis — a process of shaping loose ideas and vulnerable emotions into songs rooted in lyrical honesty and emotional clarity.
Shez
Liz Caddy
Radds
I start writing based on a simple phrase or thought, stream of consciousness. I don't let self-doubt ruin the process; I just write as fast as I can. The meaning reveals itself later, and based on that, I edit and refine, which I find much easier than during the 'storming' process
