Songwriting in Canberra

Canberra has an active community of people writing, developing and performing original songs.

From first ideas and unfinished lyrics to finished recordings and live performances, CanberraWAX provides a place for local songwriters to share their work, meet other writers and be part of Canberra's original music community.

Songwriters involved with WAX work across many styles, including folk, country, indie, rock, pop, blues, soul, acoustic and everything in between.

The Canberra songwriting community

Songwriting can be a solitary activity, but sharing songs with other writers can be an important part of developing your craft.

The WAX Song Circle brings Canberra songwriters and lyricists together regularly to perform original songs, hear new material and connect with other people who write.

Some writers arrive with years of experience, while others are performing an original song for the first time. The emphasis is on sharing songs and encouraging a genuine local songwriting community.

Learn, listen and take part

You don't need to consider yourself a professional songwriter to be part of Canberra's songwriting community.

If you write lyrics, play an instrument, sing, record songs at home or simply have a growing collection of unfinished ideas, there are opportunities to listen, perform, meet other writers and develop your songwriting.

For listeners, supporting Canberra songwriting can be as simple as attending a local performance, following an artist, listening to their recordings or sharing their music.
